Programs

Eight programs. One life.

Residents choose what they take part in. Everything here exists to make living independently actually work — not to keep anyone busy.

Program

Residential Living

A furnished one-bedroom apartment of their own — and everything a person walks out into.

  • Private 1-bedroom apartment: Furnished 618 sq. ft. space with a personal lock and key.
  • Independent lifestyle: Freedom to decorate with personal belongings and host guests.
  • Included perks: Utilities, high-speed internet, and 14 meals per week.
  • Shared amenities: Community kitchen, lounge, indoor recreation and multipurpose rooms, outdoor patio, sports court, and splash pad.
  • Continuous support: 24/7 on-site staff.

Coaching & Life Skills

Every resident works with a life coach, and the plan is written with them — which is why no two look alike.

  • Personalized coaching: Residents co-create unique, individualized plans with a dedicated life coach.
  • Practical skill building: Setting goals, establishing routines, and managing everyday tasks like schedules, laundry, and groceries.
  • Pre-move-in assessment: Coaches meet with residents and guardians before the trial stay to evaluate needs and draft an initial 60-day accommodation plan.
  • Expert leadership: The coaching team is directed by Kady McCarthy, who brings 11 years of special education experience to the role.

Program

Employment & Vocational

Work, school, or volunteering — the resident chooses, and the ride is handled.

  • Resident choice: Residents choose their daily path — work, school, or volunteering — and transportation is provided.
  • Included training: Employment readiness coaching and job training are fully covered by room and board.
  • Career support: Life coaches help build résumés, find job openings, and practice interviews so residents can interview confidently on their own.
  • Community integration: Residents hold jobs (like barista or preschool assistant), volunteer, or attend classes.

Health & Well-Being

A Registered Dietitian on the staff, a sports court and a splash pad, and a dog on the team.

  • Expert nutrition: Led by on-staff Registered Dietitian Jessica Wotruba, who creates personalized 1-on-1 plans, teaches health workshops, and designs the 14-meal-a-week menu.
  • Active amenities: On-site recreation, including a sports court and a splash pad.
  • Canine motivation: Murphy, a certified service dog with experience helping medically complex children, is a dedicated fitness team member who gets residents moving.

Financial Literacy

Keeping a budget. Ordering groceries. This is where independence gets practical.

  • Practical independence: Essential real-world skills like keeping a budget and ordering groceries.
  • Intentional spending: Residents learn to plan ahead and spend their money purposefully.
  • Proactive coaching: One-on-one work with a coach builds strong financial habits on their own terms, long before issues arise.

Program

Transportation

A twenty-mile radius — the least glamorous program here, and the one that makes half the others possible.

  • Service area: Reliable rides within a 20-mile radius for all off-property activities.
  • Essential rides: Work shifts, medical appointments, classes, and volunteering.
  • Daily logistics: Community assistants handle the day-to-day scheduling and driving.
  • Official support: Backed in part by Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funds administered through the City of Phoenix — see our Title VI plan.

Program

Recreation & Community

A full calendar, and residents pick from it.

  • Activity calendar: Residents choose from a fully packed schedule of events.
  • Diverse options: Fitness, music, theater, arts, volunteering, game nights, and sports.
  • Local excursions: On-site activities plus group trips to cultural events around the Valley.
  • Meaningful connections: Deep friendships and a strong sense of community — the kind that make residents want to stay for the weekend.

Program

Self-Advocacy

Speaking up for yourself, so a parent doesn't have to be your voice forever.

Asking for what you need, saying no to what you don't, and being heard when you do. It runs underneath every other program on this list.

Three residents currently sit on the Treasure House Young Professionals Board — raising money and planning events alongside the people who fund the place they live.
